The Bottom Line

Humboldt House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, a nursing home in Buffalo, NY, was hit with a $50,000 fine, the largest single fine imposed by the state Health Department, for infection control violations, according to The Buffalo News.

The fine stemmed from an inspection in April, during which the inspector observed:

  • COVID-19 positive residents rooming with uninfected residents
  • Lack of social distancing and mask usage among staff and residents
  • Staff caring for COVID-19 residents, then caring for uninfected residents without changing into clean PPE or washing hands.

In all, 23 nursing homes in New York have been fined a total of $328,000 for infection control violations during the pandemic.
